Agriculture is a big sector in Vermont. Because of regional farms, Vermont leads the nation in maple production and leads New England in dairy production. I better their breakfast is top tier too, because they have 556 organic farms within the state. Although Ag is not the biggest sector, Leahy is still a champion for the farmers. With the help of the USDA, Leahy was able to provide $20 million dollars to organic farmers where were effected by COVID-19.
The Green Mountains cover most of Vermont and are believed to have the world's oldest rocks; as old as 400 million years old! 78% of the state is forested, and this sector creates $1.4 billion in annual economic output. Leahy is focused on preserving the natural beauty of Vermont. Lake Champlain is located in the northwest corner of the state and feeds multiple rivers which run thought out the state. Throughout his time Congress, Leahy has provided $110 million in federal funding to clean and protect the beloved lake.
During my research of Vermont, I found myself thinking that Vermont's major industries are all intertwined. Because if this, I think Vermont's citizen are very vocal about their policy preferences. Thus Senator Leahy assumes the roll of delegate, following the preferences of his constituents.
And before we leave you with message from our sponsors:
The Vermont State Legislators would like to announce the craziest laws they have ever made
1. Women must get permission from their husbands to wear false teeth.
- What happens to unmarried women?
2. In the town of Barre, all residents must bathe every Saturday night.
- I genuinely wonder how this law was proposed.
3. In Vermont, it is illegal to whistle underwater.
- Guess Leahy is s.o.l. on his next birthday scuba dive.
